Our Story
In mid 2009, Epiphan Systems, a leader in DVI/VGA video capture hardware, was looking for a solution to build its own custom equipment stands to be used in exhibitions as well as production. The natural choice was to build the equipment stands using aluminum and other lightweight materials, all while using aluminum T-slotted profiles for the frame of the stand. Aluminum profiles were chosen because they were modular, expandable, easy to assemble and take apart, lightweight, and extremely durable. Furthermore, aluminum profiles have already proved their value in many industries, including laboratory use, cleanroom assemblies, and industrial robotic machines. Surprisingly enough, even though aluminum was much stronger of a material than composite plastics and metals that are sometimes used in the building of equipment stands and other heavy duty equipment, the price for aluminum profiles was much lower than that of comparable materials.
Mike Sandler, Epiphan Systems' CEO, then set out to search for a manufacturer of T-slotted aluminum profiles that would be able to quickly cut, prepare, and ship the materials needed to build the equipment stand. During the search, most manufacturers requested a complete bill of materials and were unable to point Mike to a software program that was tailored for the design of aluminum frames. Instead, they provided a free plugin for Autodesk AutoCAD, a $4000 software program that often takes years to learn. Besides not having the software needed for the plugin, Mr. Sandler had no expertise in CAD design and was therefore unable to use it.
This is when the idea to launch an aluminum profiles design and delivery service that would be easy for everyone to use came about. In December 2009, Mr. Sandler launched FrameXpert.com, where free design software that everyone can download and use, rapid 24 hour delivery, and fast support were at the foundation of the FrameXpert's success formula. Finally, designing an equipment stand takes a matter of minutes, not days, and delivery is hassle-free and overnight.
